After having to reschedule our session, we really lucked out with location and gorgeous weather. Most of the leaves had already dropped around town, but this park was full of leaves!! Beautiful. I had a lot of fun with Ryan and Erica!! It took some convincing to get Ryan to lay down in the leaves, but boy am I glad he did. I just love those images!! Thanks guys, I can't wait for your big day!!

This past week I went to Shannon Sewell's workshop in Brighton, MI hosted by the lovely Laurel. It was a fantastic day filled with inspiration and ideas. I met some wonderful photographer's with some amazing talent! What a great day!!

This handsome guy is Laurel's son. What a fantastic model....I think he might be a little used to the camera. :)

These two adorable little girls were styled as little owls! If only I could get my daughter wear something like this for Halloween (right now she is campaigning for the scariest costume out there).

What a great evening with these two cuties pies! Although the beautiful tile mosaic in the picture below won the battle between it and I. My foot found the one hole in the entire yard and helped me trip onto that tile!! Good thing John is a photographer and graciously lent me his lens, since my lens and my pride didn't quite survive!! :) We will both recover soon.

Well, my youngest turned One at the end of July, but......I finally got to taking Porter's pictures at about 13 months. We headed out to my parents house to capture some of the amazing sunset light. Where we live right now is not ideal for sunset viewing, I sometimes get a glimmer through the trees. But, going home to my parents and seeing the sky filled with the most beautiful colors and light at sunset is always good for my soul.

The session was quick, he's One. And, my dad thought I was crazy for putting Porter in "tights". :) I love the baby legs and figure it is one of my last chances to use them on him!!

See his finger pointing in the picture below?? That is what Porter does ALL-DAY-LONG. He points and asks "whatsthat?" I love it.

I was able to photograph my good friend and her adorable little boy recently. Shannon is a faithful client of mine. I have photographed her family and now it was her in-laws turn!

It is always so cute to see how kids act around their grandparents. The love between grandparent and grandchild is so different than between parent and child. What a great way to preserve that special bond.

The fourth and final family session. We had a little bit of time before the last session, so Eric and I headed into downtown Petoskey for lunch. That is when the downpour started. I was worried it wasn't going to let up. We decided to wait until the session time to make the final weather call and I AM SO GLAD we did. About five minutes before the session, the rain stopped and the clouds opened up a little to give the most wonderful light.

To say that these boys are rambunctious is an understatement. We were able to get some smiles finally when we stood in the water and they threw rocks at us! I only got hit once, and it wasn't so bad. I love how these images turned out. Boys are so different from girls and this session is all boy, complete with rocks.

I think the boys look like little sweethearts, but their mom is probably thinking that is not how the pictures were going to turn out.

To the wonderfully patient parents of these three boys, I hope you are pleasantly surprised.

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of photography four families in Bay View, MI, Petoskey Area. It was an overcast day, which would have been perfect except for the slight drizzle of rain.

First up was my friend Sarah's family, who got the most drizzle of the day. The girls did great considering! If Baby Lucy hadn't of been turning purple towards the end of the session, I could have photographed the location all day! Healthy, happy children are the most important thing though in a session!

On June 12, Eric and Melody were married at the Post Family Farm. It was a beautiful day, wonderful location, and a fantastic couple.

Eric and Melody chose to do the first look, this is when the Bride and Groom see each other before the ceremony. I love it when couples choose to do this. It makes the day go just a little bit smoother.

On June 5th, Tia and Brian were married in Grand Rapids, MI. Thankfully the rainy weather held off until right before the reception started! They wanted a vintage-simple feel to their wedding. I believe they accomplished that the most by focusing their priorities on their love and their guests.

To make the day even more special, it was also Tia's parents 40th wedding anniversary. What a great way to start the first day of your married life together with a wonderful example of commitment and love.

Last week Friday I met Kristin and Jim for their engagement session. They were driving up from Chicago and knowing how important water was to them, we chose to meet in Holland, MI. It was a little windy, but other than that it was a perfect May day. We started off close to downtown, made a stop at the New Holland Brewery, then ended on Lake Michigan.

While we were at the New Holland Brewing Company Kristin and I found the most high-tech toilet seat in the ladies restroom. Yes, you read that right, I'm blogging about a toilet seat. I think someone could spend way too much time on that thing. Um. not me. I marveled at all of the buttons and decided it was way too complicated.

So back to Kristin and Jim. I had a lot of fun hanging out with them and I am looking forward to their wedding in July! And I promise to not ask Jim to pick you up Kristin on you wedding day!!! :)

I have been wanting to blog more, but I didn't know where to start. After putting some thought into it, I realized I love making lists. So a list is what I made. Now I have a plan outlined and something to blog about. :)

Today's featured product: Prints

I know that many of my clients chose to get the digital images, but I want to highlight the advantages of ordering prints through 87 Orange Photography. All images are ordered from a professional lab company and come mounted on a single matboard and luster coated. What does this mean? When the lab mounts the images on matboard it gives the print stability. There are no more accidental wrinkles in your beautifully large 16x20 or any size for that matter. And, yes they still fit in a frame. You just may have to remove the cardboard or foam in the back. The luster coating is a finish that is sprayed on each print in the lab to protect your image from UV damage. These images are of a 11x14 client print. Notice how the print can stand on its own and is not flimsy or floppy like a print from (enter generic lab here). Another advantage to ordering prints from 87 Orange is that you have the assurance that the image quality is guaranteed, it is company policy to deliver phenomenal products.

Amy & Dan Hollywood ~ Destination Wedding - Captiva / Sanibel Island

Last weekend on Saturday, April 17, 2010 I had the pleasure of photographing my good friend Amy's wedding. The fact that it was in Florida was just the cherry on top of being able to be there for her. We were like sisters growing up and have gone through important milestones together and I was so happy to play such an important role in this milestone.

Amy and Dan had a boat wedding and reception aboard the Lady Chadwick. The guest list was small and intimate. Everyone was so friendly and they were such a fun group of friends and family that helped Amy and Dan celebrate their new live together.

We started off the day by taking pictures on the grounds of the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island. I feel in love with the island and could see why Amy and Dan choose this location. Small shops, people biking, and a slower pace created the perfect enviroment.

These are Amy's adorable boys Chase and Collin.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of this important day! Welcome to the family Dan! I wish for the both of you a long life filled with lots of love and joy.

Sarah & Ravi ~ Engagement Session

Last weekend I met up with an old high school friend Sarah and her fiance Ravi. The location was at Sarah's parents farm, and the plan was to use the old barn. As I was packing up my gear the rain was pouring down and it wasn't looking good for a photo session. Since Sarah and Ravi live in Chicago we decided to go ahead and hope for the best....and I am SO glad we did. By the time I got there the rain had stopped but it was perfectly overcast. And, the log pile out back never looked so good. :)

Every engagement shoot I do is wonderful for different reasons, and this one was no exception. Sarah & Ravi have been together awhile and it shows. It's in the way they are comfortable with each other, love each other, and can just be goofy with each other.

I am so happy for you both and wish you much love and happiness for many, many years to come. Thank you so much for letting me capture your love at this moment in time.

Two Grandparents, Four Sisters, Four Husbands, and Six kids. I was worried...but this family was fantastic. Last week I planned to take sleepy baby pictures of baby Lucy...but she had other plans. There was no way I was going to get her to sleep without her pacifier. So, the paci stayed and it works. The pictures are unique to Lucy and they show her personality, as new as it is. I always know that I should expect the unexpected with this wonderful family. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. New Year's Eve

It all started last year on New Year's Eve. As we headed home from my parents house in those first hours of 2009 my husband asked me where I would like to bring in 2010. At the time I was pregnant with our third child, so I knew I wanted it to be family oriented. We decided on Disney World. Now a year is a long time when you are saving and planning and waiting for a vacation.

As the month of December drew near we started planning our trip. It turned out that it would be better to go to Disney after the New Year. So, we had New Year's Eve open. I decided to call my cousin Amie in Florida and see if our families could get together. After talking I thought it would be fun to do a family photo session.

We all had so much fun, and I just wish we lived closer. I am also so glad I got to capture these pictures. We love you all so much.

Of all the pictures that I took this one was the most emotional one for me. My cousin is amazing...her shoulders carry so much. She has a wonderful husband, five(yes 5!!) children, and is also battling cancer. I can't even begin to imagine the strength she has.

This little boy is definitely outnumbered!!

On Sunday I took a few *wink* pictures of my sister Katie and her fiance Scott. Even though it was Mother's Day, I couldn't have asked for a better time. It was a whole family affair, complete with our mother bumping the "love" tunes from the car.

I also was able to use my new ORANGE couch. Katie and Scott are getting married in the Fall and one of the wedding colors is orange. Although I won't be shooting the wedding, my good friend Alex will be, I had so much fun shooting their engagement pictures.

The Good and the Bad..

This past weekend was definitely eventful. Friday night my sister Katie came over and had dinner with Nolan and I. After the little one was in bed we decided to watch a movie. But, we wanted to watch one through Netflix online. What that means is we spent an hour figuring out how to hook the TV up to the computer AND HAVE SOUND!! The movie was good and it was even better to spend time with my sister.

Then Saturday came. It started off great. I met up with several other area photographers and we attended a local workshop. I gained some knowledge and spent time with some wonderful ladies. Then my klutzy self turned a good weekend around. As I was getting out of the car I slipped on a patch of ice. Well, slipped isn't the exact motion, it was more like I did the splits. For a 5 month pregnant lady to do the splits, it's not a pretty sight. The worst part was when my knee twisted in the wrong direction. All is good now, besides my embarrassment at displaying yet again my gracefulness or lack there of.

So, I am looking forward to Spring and less obstacles for me to encounter!!

Stinky car...

Currently I am driving a 16 year old Jeep. My Husband bought it brand new and it has been a wonderful vehicle all of these years. BUT, it has become the stinky car.

We have to pick our daughter up from school, because the school does not have busing. So, when the kids walk by our Jeep, they hold their noses. Our oil burning smell fumigates the whole parking lot. I'm sure whomever is behind us in line is surely sorry.

We are currently looking for a new vehicle, but it is bittersweet. I feel that our Jeep is a loyal and faithful friend, and we are somehow betraying her (yes her, I figure it must be a her since my husband bought the Jeep) When she stalls out I want to pound the dash board, but it's not nice to hit your friends or anyone for that matter. Especially if you want them to still be around.

I never thought I would be so happy driving an older vehicle. But the freedom and pride of driving an older car far out weighs the lure of a shiny new vehicle.

Urban Mini Session

On Tuesday, I met with a couple of mom's from a wonderful GR Mom's group Nolan and I joined. For the short amount of time we had the kids did fabulous, considering that it isn't exactly summer out!! Ladies, I hope you enjoy your preview, thanks so much for helping me build my portfolio!

Beautiful Fall Day

On Sunday, the family and I went to Fredrick Meijer Gardens to enjoy some of the Fall weather. The kids got to see a pumpkin that weighs a 1000 pounds! Samina said she wanted that pumpkin for Halloween. Yeah, I told her if she could carry it, we would think about it. And since they are predicting snow, yes I said that horrible four letter word, I am glad we got out to enjoy FMG while the weather is decent.

I met up with my friend and her adorable little girl this week for an urban session. A few weeks ago we had gotten some natural summer shots, now we got to go out and get some more fall urban shots. I had so much fun with you guys! Thanks!

I had the pleasure of photographing my cousin's three girls on Sunday. We headed downtown for some "urban" photos. They are all so cute and loved posing for my camera. I know that they enjoyed the session, because when we were done they asked when we could do it again! Thanks guys! Love ya!

Fall is here...

Friday night I photographed a friend and her adorable family. This was my first time photographing an active 1 year old. Boy did she have me running.

And, as you can see, they are expecting another bundle of joy soon!! I got the inspiration for this photograph from Jessica Claire's blog post and couldn't resist using the "bump" signs that I drive by every day on our road. I love how they turned out! Thanks M for letting me play around!!

Nolan has to have this blanket everywhere we go. I call it the "big" pacifier. Notice the color orange. : ) My friend Sarah made this for Nolan when he was born. So it was a complete coincidence that orange is one of the main colors. Typically when you see him holding his blanket like this, a loud humming sound can be heard too. This is how he goes to sleep every night.

Last year for Christmas my sister-in-law bought me these bags as a gift. I use them everywhere. What I love the most is that you can roll them up and just take one bag in a small purse. Because of the small size I can also carry all five bags in my purse.

Elise & Zach ~ Wedding Slideshow

This slide show is from Elise and Zach's wedding two weekends ago. The wedding was originally going to be a small event, but the couple is fortunate enough to have lots of friends and family. So, a small wedding would not due! They ended up having the wedding & reception at Moss Ridge Golf Club. It was a beautiful sunny day and both families were so friendly and welcoming. My favorite quote from the day was from Zach's little brother. He said that he "was so happy that he had a big sister now."

Zach is in the Marines and may be deployed soon. So, I wish this young couple a happy and love filled life together.

New Blog!!!

I have decided that it is time to get my photography business up and going. Even though I am still in school, I feel that it is time for my business to grow. And, what better way to do it than with a new name!! I chose the name 87 orange photography for personal reasons. It has always been a favorite color of mine, but it also connects my family too. My family is the reason I started my photography business, and so it is really not just my business but "our" business. Without their support, I wouldn't be able to follow my passion in photography. Especially my husband, whom hopefully will be second shooting for me as our business grows!

So, I couldn't post without a picture! Here is a sweet little girl from a session last Saturday.
